Perfect Romantic Getaway
Coming from L.A , visiting our kids in college in NYC we decided to head up north and experience winter( it's 80F in L.A). Lake Placid Winter Olympics is engraved in our memory and this is one for the bucket list. After much research we landed on the cottage which seemed perfect for our needs. Mary gave us a few pre-trip tips and off we go.
We arrived late at night , not ideal in the heavy snow, when unfamiliar,as the area is pretty dark and semi rural but directions were good and phone navigation worked perfectly.
The complimentary excellent wine waiting on the table warmed our hearts. The Cottage was exactly as it is in the photos, cozy and charming . No spot was overlooked. Mary filled it with art and artifacts, books and memorabilia, all related to the area , and the history of the cottage, all with superb taste. Details were pretty impressive.
The cottage has everything you might need from fully equipped kitchen including supplies to a small Bose speaker you can connect your phone to . They also provide brand new washer and dryer. The bathroom, though tiny was fresh and clean with the added bonus of a towel warmer and toilet seat warmer, both were appreciated. High end toiletries (L' Occitane body wash !). Other cleaning supplies were organic and chemical free. Bed was very comfortable and felt luxurious and plush with all the pillows and the crisp linens. There were plenty of towels, big and small. The centerpiece was the wood burning fireplace, where we spent most of our time, we used the provided wood and purchased extra on the way from road side farmers .The location is perfect, a stone a way from the lake in this amazing country club development.
Everything was frozen and seemed deserted, but so so beautiful with the white snow and mountains in the background.I can't imagine how beautiful it is during spring or summer. Due to severe weather(be careful what you wish for) we stayed in most of the time, enjoyed the sun by the table bench, cooked, read and just relaxed. We did not use the T.V at all. We did take a few trips to the city, payed homage to the Olympic facilities ( the luge and the ski jump) and visited the High Falls Gorge ( a must). 2 grocery markets are about 5-10 drive. Communication with owner was good.

You Deserve This
This beautiful quaint historic cottage is one of a kind. Cozy, and so comfortable you may not want to leave. Mary and Ben have added touches, improvements, and with care.
The furnishings are genuine Adirondack article, the original stone and woodwork is stunning. Kitchen is newly remodeled, modern, and fully equipped. The great room, dining room/window seat nook is perfect. The huge stone fireplace dates to the 1800's and the king size feather bed should be illegal. It is really a cloud I think.
We love it. Come back to it. And treasure it.

Birthday Celebration at Garden Cottage with snow !
I was looking for somewhere to stay to celebrate my 50th birthday with my partner and or dog who were both joining me from Australia.
We love the cold weather and as my birthday is in the first week of December I settled on Lake Placid hoping for snow. We drove from NYC arriving at the cottage the night before my birthday and to our delight (Archie with West Highland Terrier included) it was snowing. The cottage was perfect! A beautiful sparkling Christmas tree greeted us at the door and inside we found the coziest cabin we could have ever wanted. The décor was in keeping with a cabin in the woods, the linens and bed were delightful and there was even a special blanket for Archie. We had four very relaxing days and nights, with each evening spent with the wood fire blazing, reading books from the book shelf and enjoying wine and treats prepared from the very amply equipped kitchen.
Thank you to Mary and Ben for sharing your cabin with us, we will definitely be recommending it to friends and hope to come back for more snow next year.
With kind regards Sharon, Gerry and Archie
